You can display and key in Japanese character ongGrammar On-linehif you install Microsoft Internet Explorer (4.0 or a higher version) and Microsoft Global IME in your Windows 95, 98 or NT 4.0 computer. You can see a general explanation of Global IME at

I. Downloading Internet Explorer 5.0

    (Skip this procedure if Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or 5.0 has been installed in your computer)
  1. Access to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/windows.htm
  2. Select your operating system and menu (gInternet Explorer 5 and Internet Toolsh is recommended)
  3. Select a download site
  4. Download a setup file
  5. Run the setup file
  6. Restart your computer

II. Downloading Global IME 5.01 (from the Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0/5.0)

  1. Open Internet Explorer 5.0
  2. Access http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/features/ime.asp,

  3. then click g download Global IMEh.
    Or directly access http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/iebuild/ime5_win32/en/ime5_win32.htm
  4. Choose gMicrosoft Global IME for Japanese ? with Language Packh
  5. Download the selected file
  6. Run the downloaded file
  7. Restart your computer

III. Using of Global IME 5.01

  1. When you start your computer, you will find an  icon on the right of the task bar in Windows 95/98 or NT operated computers as follows .
  2. Start Internet Explorer 4/5.
  3. Select Japanese font (auto-detect) from the efontf heading under the gViewh menu.
  4. Access Grammar On-line at

  6. When you are required to key Japanese character into a block, click the block to move the cursor into it, and then click the  icon on the taskbar.
  7. Select Japanese IME when you see the following menu:

  8. You will find the icon  at the bottom-right corner on the display and the icon  will have changed to  on the taskbar. You can now key roman letter into the block.
  9. Press the shortcut key (ALT key + ~ ) or click A on  and choose in the list , and the icon  will appear.
  10. You can key-in hiragana, katakana or kanji by converting from roman letters. For further information on the converting system, click the help icon on .
